“The IPS grant for fieldwork really helped me in searching for palms across Madagascar. Thanks to the IPS, several new species have been discovered in the wild and many others have been seen again in their natural habitat after decades of uncertainty.” Dr. Mijoro Rakotoarinivo, RBG, Kew, Madagascar Program |
SUPPORT GLOBAL CONSERVATION EFFORTS |
SAVE THE SPECIES CAMPAIGNS In 2020, the IPS launched its annual Save the Species campaign to raise awareness and funding for targeted palm conservation projects around the world. Campaigns are announced in November. In 2024 the International Palm Society, in partnership with Institut Agronomique néo-Calédonien (IAC), and the “Table Unio” tribe of the Bourail commune launched a Campaign to protect Basselinia vestita, a rare and under-researched palm species native to New Caledonia.
